Detective Superintendent Patrick Byrne is attached to the Garda National Drugs Unit and is currently in charge of Operations. He has 29 years service in the Garda Siochana and has worked in a variety of areas including Investigation Section Garda Headquarters, the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation, the Criminal Assets Bureau, District Officer Castlebar, and the Professional Standards Unit. He was one of the original officers tasked with setting up the Criminal Assets Bureau and was also involved in the setting up of the Computer Crime Unit GBFI. He has worked with the Council of Europe as a Rapporteur and was the Senior Investigative Officer on the Honourable Judge Reillys Inquiry Team in the Seychelles in 2007. He holds a BSc Management and a Diploma in Addiction Studies from Trinity College Dublin, A Diploma in Management Law Dublin Institute of Technology, a Certificate in Forensic Computing and Network Security, University College Dublin and has completed an Executive Leaders Course and other training in John F Kennedy School Harvard Boston USA and in the Police Staff College Bramshill UK.
