Neil Giles was appointed Deputy Director (HUMINT) on 3rd January 2006. He is the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for Programme 9 Upstream Cocaine, the strategic approach to and oversight of the series of projects designed to reduce the harm to communities in the UK arising from cocaine trafficking.
Neil draws on a long history in law enforcement specialising in organised crime, counter drugs and covert operations.
Neil served with the Metropolitan Police and National Crime Squad for 30 years until April 2003 concluding as a Detective Chief Superintendent.
Between policing and joining SOCA he worked as a Director of a commercial security consultancy practice developing service lines and growing partnership opportunities with Global Corporates and public sector organisations. Neil has experience at strategic level and is a specialist in covert operations. He also served as the UK Police attaché to the USA, based at the British Embassy Washington DC.
