Assistant Chief Constable Harris is responsible for the PSNIs Crime Operations Department. His present portfolio includes Organised Crime; Major Investigation Teams; Intelligence Branch; Special Operation Branch; Analyst Branch; Scientific Support Branch; Serious Crime Review Team; E-Crime and Central Authorisation Bureau. Assistant Chief Constable Harris also holds the ACPO Hate Crime Portfolio.
ACC Drew Harris has 24 years police service. Prior to appointment as ACC in February 2006, Mr Harris was District Commander in Craigavon. During his career, he has served in a number of operational and headquarters posts throughout Northern Ireland.
Starting his career as a Constable in 1983, Mr Harris served in beat and patrol officer postings in Belfast, Banbridge, and Armagh. He was promoted to Chief Inspector in 1996 and Superintendent in 2000.
In 2002, he completed a two-year secondment in the rank of Superintendent to Her Majestys Inspector of Constabulary, Scotland.
Mr Harris holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Politics and Economics (Open University) and a M.St in Criminology (Cantab).
He completed the Strategic Command Course in 2004 and the Leadership in International Counter Terrorism Course in 2005.
