Brian Rowan is a writer and broadcaster. A former security editor with the BBC in Belfast , he covered the period leading to the republican and loyalist ceasefires of 1994 and then the formal ending of the IRA’s armed campaign eleven years later, including the arms decommissioning process. Four times he has been a category winner in the Northern Ireland Journalist of the Year awards, including twice as Specialist Journalist. He is now a regular contributor to the Belfast Telegraph, and his fourth book - How The Peace Was Won - was published in August. It includes interviews with many of the key players in the Irish peace process, including PSNI Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde and retired Assistant Chief Constable Peter Sheridan. The BBC’s Peter Taylor has described Rowan as “the real insider who knows all the main players, having reported the conflict from the frontline...during which time he’s clearly and admirably won the trust of all sides.” Rowan was born in Belfast in 1958 and now lives just outside the city.
