Moira has been Chair of the Police Authority since 2003 and was
Deputy Chair of the Association of Police Authorities from 2004-2008.
She was a magistrate for 18 years and joined the Police Authority in
2001 as a magistrate member.
A clinical psychologist by profession, Moira worked in the NHS for 20
years and as a postgraduate lecturer at Leicester University. She has
been an Honorary Research Fellow at Exeter and Bristol Universities
and an Honorary Tutor at Birmingham University. Before changing
career, Moira worked in publishing in London.
Moira is a past holder of a Winston Churchill Fellowship and a Council
of Europe Medical Fellowship in the areas of alcohol and drug
dependence.
Previous appointments include Vice Chairman of Somerset and
Dorset Strategic Health Authority 2002-2006, Vice Chairman of
National Clinical Assessment Authority (NCAA) from 2001-2003,
Member of the Home Office Joint Prison/Probation Accreditation
Panel from 1999-2002.
She is a Patron of the National Theatre, a Sponsor of Hay Festival and
has a keen interest in horseracing.
Moira Chairs main Police Authority meetings, Appointments
Committee and Remuneration Sub-Committee. She is an ex-officio
member of all Police Authority Committees. Moira is the lead for the
Authority on Protective Services.
