With the revised drug strategy impending, less resources available and increasing controversy as to just what is being achieved, the workshop will look at two significant contributions to the recent debate about where next?
The RSA Commission on Illegal Drugs, Communities and Public Policy reported earlier this year and set out some radical proposals for the future of drug policy, centred on the need to de-ghettoise drugs, drug users and drugs policy and gear drugs services more effectively to meet users needs. The new UK Drug Policy Commission is looking at the evidence base for current policy and programmes in order to stimulate a more informed public debate about future options, including whether interventions for drug dependent offenders actually work. Hear these two important bodies contributions to the debate.
